MPC Photo Entry

Postby Olyve Oyle » Fri Jul 30, 2010 9:03 pm

I will appreciate some constructive criticism on this photo, please. It really wasn't what I was striving for, but I honestly don't know what would make it better. So I'd appreciate your help! Thanks! I had some park features in the bg, but don't know if thatwould have been good or not.

I don't see anything 'wrong' with this photograph and all of this is subjective. There are nice shapes and lines. For me, there just was any emotion brought out by this work. I just didn't get any of that "oooh / ahhhh" from it. Without knowing the theme of the MPC already, I wonder if I would have identified the shoe as the main subject? I think having the rider's foot still in the shoe and wearing jeans is maybe a questionable choice.

nyweb's edit helps increase the weight of the shoe making it unmistakeable as the subject, but the story is still fuzzy and just lacks emotion. It's a nice effort and we appreciate you putting your work out there for us.

I gave this photo a high rating as I liked the composition very much, there are nice curves, shapes, warm colors and above all it is not boring - lots of things to look at. This is an exceptional photo for the sport of "Cycling". I had to think long and hard how this could be improved and then it struck me. This wasn't a Cycling Challenge, it was about a shoe. So how to make the shoe the main subject and downplay the rest of the photo - and still stay within the rules (What, no Photoshop?) Where I would normally use blur, sharpness, color shift and lighting to set the subject apart, with none of this available, what now?
About , the only solution left is to make the camera work harder. Center or Spot focus would be allowed, so I would get back some, focus on the shoe and hope that the rest of the photo would be a blur. Could be an interesting experiment. Margaret this is a very nice piece of art. Happy experimenting!! robert

Hi Olyve,
When I saw this one, I thought of the athletics of bicycling and sports, shoes to me fit all of those categories. The Bg makes for the park scene for the outdoors-men in us all. Nicely done. TFS
